It is a vast place and the traffic will drive you mad.But there are alternatives to Taxi’s such as MRT  metro underground rail link that runs between Hua Lampong to Bang Sue with 16 stations along the route.Skytrain or BTS  overhead rail link there are two lines, one between Onut and Bearing with 22 stations along the route The other line is the Silom line running from National Stadium to Talat Phlu with 11 stations in between.There is also the Samlors or Tuk Tuk’s, a three wheeled taxi with no meter so fix the fare first. These are only suitable for short journeys.The Taxi’s are metered and the minimum fare for the first two km is 35 Baht. Make sure the meter is reset before the start of  the journey.

The shopping is unbelievable in Bangkok, you can buy practically anything from your usual cosmetics to quickly made silk suits or items of ladies clothing at  the many tailor shops prolifically situated around Bangkok.They have many areas within Bangkok, such as China Town, great for buying in the street markets or for food or for gold.

Then near China Town - Bo Bae - fantastic for buying cheap clothes.But you have to be there really early to get the best buys. Silom & Pat Pong again can be reached on the BTS line - Silom Line.The renowned night market at Pat Pong which is surrounded by many fantastic places to eat. Khoa San and Khoa San Road Market frequented by the back packers because of the cheap accommodation there, Khoa San area is very near the Grand Palace which sits on the Chao Phraya River. Pratunam, here you will find the famous Street Market and departmant stores along with Pantip Plaza, a metropolis of computer related items here. Sukumvit area, mainly frequented by the Farang or foreign visitors, due to the many Go Go bars, night spots and Bars. The hotels are very good in this area and are very central for all areas of Bangkok, with NaNa BTS rail station here.
