Exhibition Centres

Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre  8 Km. 1 Bangna Trat Road, Phra Khanong,  0 2749 3939-60  0 2749 3939-60

Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre   60 New Ratchadaphisek Road,( below left ) Khlong Toei, 0 2229 3000-9

0 2229 3000-9  As Sukhumvit is one of Bangkok's main thorough fares, the long

road is lined with shops, boutiques and modern shopping  plazas ranging from

Soi 3  ( Na Na Nua )  up to Soi 63 ( Ekkamai ). Most shops and restaurants are

concentrated between  Soi 3 and  Soi 21 ( Asoke ) and along shortcuts between

Asoke and Ekkamai. Sombat Permpoon Gallery at Sukhumvit Soi 1 sells both

paintings and sculptures by established artists and those of the new generation.

Shopping Malls

Emporium Shopping Centre, Sukhumvit Soi 24 ( Phrom Phong BTS Station ). This is the top competitor to Gaysorn Plaza, with lower floors dedicated to brands like Louis Vuitton and  Rolex, but

( unlike Gaysorn )  it has more  affordably priced goods on the  upper levels.

Emporium also has a popular food court and a good selection of restaurants on

the 5th floor. Kinokunyia bookstore has a large selection of English language

books including many travel guides. Go to the cinema on the top floor and you

will find an amazing private library centred around design. You can get a free

day pass. Spend the day reading amazing books, or just using the Internet.

Take your passport to register for Tax reclaim.

Thong Lo Midtown, Thong Lo ( Sukhumvit Soi 55 ) Soi 18 ( 15 to 20 min walk from BTS Thong Lo, or hop on the Songthaew for 6 Baht ). Formerly the quirky Uberhip Playground department store, now a hip mini mall with IT, modern design and home accessory stores, plus Vanilla Restaurant, Shiki Japanese Cuisine and a Starbucks.

Markets

Klong Toei Market, just south of MRT Queen Sirikit Convention Centre. A huge and surprisingly centrally located market, definitely off the tourist trail: the stalls sell goods for Thais, at Thai prices. Open 24 hours, but best experienced in the early hours of the evening.
