After ridding his 12 wives of their sight, King Rothsithi ordered his counsellor to confine them in a tunnel. The Twelve Maidens were all pregnant when they were sent into their confinement. Soon the Twelve Maidens gave birth to their children. Because of the hardships the Twelve Maidens had to endure, none of the babies survived except Pao’s son. She named him Phra Rothsain or Pra Roth.

The young Phra Roth lived in a tunnel with his mother and his 11 aunts. He often sneaked out of the tunnel to find food for them. Phra Roth had a chance to meet King Rothsithi during one of his trips outside the tunnel. King Rothsithi was delighted in learning that Phra Roth actually was his son. Giantess Sonthamarn, however, became worried that her evildoings would be revealed by Phra Roth. Giantess Sonthamarn again pretended to fall ill.

She told King Rothsithi that the only medicine that could cure her illness could be obtained in Kachapuranakorn and asked Phra Rothsain to find it and bring it back to her. King Rothsithi agreed to the Giantess’s request. He gave Phra Rothsain the Giantess’s note containing her wishes and ordered him to travel to Kachapuranakorn.

Phra Rothsain embarked on his journey. During the trip, he stopped for a rest at a hermitage. The hermit kindly welcomed Phra Rothsain. While Phra Rothsain was sleeping, the hermit happened upon the Giantess’s letter tied to the back of the horse, and opened it to read it. The letter read,

To Maeree, my beloved daughter. With this note, I am sending to you your great fortune, which is Rothsain the carrier of my note. Do take him in as your sumptuous meal at the time of his arrival.”

Wanting to rescue Phra Rothsain from his looming death, he altered the Giantess’s letter to read,

To Maeree, my beloved daughter. With this note, I am sending to you your great fortune, which is Rothsain the carrier of my note. Do take him in as your husband at the time of his arrival.

After having enough rest, Phra Rothsain bid farewell to the hermit and continued his journey to Kachapuranakorn, the Giant Kingdom. Maeree was overjoyed on receiving Giantess Sonthamarn’s altered letter. She crowned Phra Rothsain as the King of her city, and arranged a marriage to be his Queen.

Despite a fortunate outcome of his luck, Phra Rothsain did not forget his mother and his 11 aunts he left behind at Kutaranakorn. To find his escape from Maeree, Pra Rothsain tricked her into getting drunk. Without her clear consciousness, Maeree led Phra Rothsain to a place where she kept the Twelve Maiden’s eyes and a medicine to cure their sight. Phra Rothsain waited until Maeree fell asleep, rushed to gather the eyes and the medicine, and left for Kutaranakorn.
