The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry

CEI magazine’s regional survey 2006

The construction of Thailand’s first purposed built exhibition centre began in 1995.  BITEC was completed in 1997 and opens the door for the first event in September.  Since then BITEC has grown from strength to strength as a popular forum for International exhibitions and congresses.  To date, a further two event halls have been added, bringing total usable event space to 50,400 sq.m., with plans to expand further according to market demand. The land area was increased to 68 acres ( 272,000 sq.m. ), extending parking capability to 4,700 vehicles.

It is certain that in a few years time, BITEC will be adding additional event halls and meeting facilities, with at least another 20,000 sq.m. of exhibition space in the next phase of expansion. Studies are being conducted to add also suitable components in the expansion such as a hotel, office building, retail plaza, and park and ride facilities.

The recent opening of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the expansion of the BTS sky train mass transit rail system to BITEC ( Bang - Na terminal station ) which will be completed in early 2009 has prompted the expansion of BITEC to cope with the ever increasing market demand for more space at BITEC.

BITEC is only a leisurely 15 minutes drive from the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport. BITEC’s close proximity to the Port of Bangkok, Laem Chabang deep sea port and the Eastern Seaboard industrial zone ensures a clear advantage for the rapid movement of exhibits to and from the Centre.

Within the city, BITEC is linked by inter-connected expressways to the major commercial centres, where most of Bangkok’s International-class hotels and shopping plazas are located.

The city’s main mass transit system, the BTS Sky train has a terminal station ( On Nut station ) only four km. away from BITEC. By early 2011 the Sky train will be extended to BITEC, easing travel for all event participants

There is indoor and outdoor parking space for 4,700 vehicles within BITEC – 1,680 cars indoor, and 3,020 cars outdoor.  Plus dedicated marshalling areas for coaches and delivery trucks.
